We are producing four main styles of white tea; Silver Needles (equivalent to Chinese Yin Zhen), A young tippy White Peony (Equivalent to Chinese Pai Mu Dan) Antlers (the young tender stem of the shoot) and a hand rolled 'pearl'. Each style has unique characteristics of flavor and aroma, and is available in different varieties which in turn impart their own characteristics in the cup.
These are an exciting range of products that Satemwa is developing. Produced from varieties that have all been developed in Malawi, they combine with the climate of Satemwa to produce a number of unique qualities that eleganlty express our terrior. In addition to this, they are amongst the few white teas currently being produced in Africa.
The colors, tastes and aromas are not at all like standard China White Teas, but the delicacy and sweetness are similar. A distinct feature of the Peony, Silver Needles and Antlers are the floral aromas that develop on the infusion (steeped leaves). The Pearls on the other hand, have a wonderful fruitiness which are proving to be as popular as the other styles.
